Joaquim Chancho was born in Riudoms, Tarragona in 1943. He studied painting at the Fine Arts School of Barcelona until 1967 and recieved a Doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona in 1993.

In 2000 he began a professorship as a member of the Painting Faculty in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. Joaquim has spent his celebrated career reflecting on his work and art form. He has exhibited, among other institutions, at MACBA Barcelona, Santa Monica Art Center, The Joan Miró Foundation, the Museu de Montserrat, and in 2011 had a 40 year retrosprective at Casal Solleric, Palma.
