Denise was born in 1959 in Pennsylvania ,Massachusetts, she learned printmaking，ceramics  and got BFA painting in Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA from 1978 to 1981, then she went to Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI . for further study and got MFA in ceramics in 1983. She has been teaching in Chatham university from 1993 to 2004 and since 2010 to now ,and she also teaches in Pittsburg Creative and Performing Arts School since 1999.
