Jorge Barreto, born in  Maracaibo Venezuela in 1942. He graduated from Texas Tech University. Lubbock,  Texas, U.S.A. in 1969 and got Bachelor of Arts . In 1976 he studied  Craft Design Course in organization of American States. Popayan. Colombia. Since 1972 he started his own studio producing dinnerware with local stoneware clay.
