Janet Deboos completed her studies at East Sydney University in 1971 and spent the next 9 years as an instructor at multiple institutions before retiring from full time teaching as the Head Teacher at East Sydney in 1980.

During and after running a production pottery over the next 20 decades she was featured in, and contributed to, many major Ceramic Art publications. Janet is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics, Craft ACT, and an advisor to ceramic organizations internationally. She shows her work in Australia and abroad, has published 3 technical books of her own, and is an Editorial Consultant on Ceramics Technical and Ceramic Art & Perception, as well as a 3 time recipient of the Australian Research Council Grant.
